How this list is maintained
Cross-referenced with the Connectivity Standards Alliance certified products database (csa-iot.org)
Hands-on verified compatibility with Apple Home (iOS 18.4+), Google Home (April 2026), Alexa (Matter 1.4 SDK), and SmartThings
Each device tested for genuine local control (no cloud round-trip)
Each entry shows: Product name · Matter version · Connectivity (Thread / Wi-Fi / Ethernet) · Verified ecosystem support · Approximate retail price (USD).
Tip: "Matter 1.4" devices have the latest spec features (network credentials sharing, multi-fabric, enhanced security). "Matter 1.3" works fine for most homes — don't avoid 1.3 devices for that reason alone.

Top picks for "first Matter device"
If you're buying your first Matter device, plugs are the safe entry. Sub-$15 entry, sub-60-second setup, immediate value (vampire-load monitoring or scheduled control).
Hue still leads on color accuracy (±2 ΔE) but exports through bridge to Matter. Pure-Matter native bulbs (Govee, Nanoleaf, IKEA, Wiz) cost less but compromise color rendering.
Philips Hue Bridge → Matter
Matter 1.4 · Zigbee→bridge · $179 starter · best color
Ecobee, Nest 4th Gen, Honeywell T9 (Q4 2026 firmware promised), Amazon Smart Thermostat 2nd Gen, and Mysa V2 — full Matter support means cross-ecosystem energy data and schedule sharing.
Ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium
Matter 1.4 · Wi-Fi · $249 · best multi-zone
Google Nest Learning (4th Gen)
Matter 1.3 · Wi-Fi + Thread · $279 · Soli radar

Matter 1.4 · Wi-Fi · $139 · electric baseboard specialist
Apple Home Key, Samsung Wallet Digital Home Key, Google (via Aliro Q3 2026) — the wallet-key wave is Matter's clearest 2026 win. UWB auto-unlock (Aqara U400) is the new bar.
If you're going beyond a few plugs, you'll want a Thread border router. The good news: most modern Apple/Amazon/Google hub speakers already do this for free.
Apple HomePod mini (2nd Gen)
Matter + Thread border router · $99 · best Apple
Apple TV 4K (2022+)
Matter + Thread border router · $129+ · entertainment
2026 is the year cameras start getting Matter — but not all of them yet. The 12 Matter-native cameras are early adopters; mainstream brands (Ring, Arlo, most Wyze) still use proprietary apps with cloud bridges.
Aqara Camera G3 (Matter)
Matter 1.3 · Wi-Fi · $129 · pan/tilt + AI
Reolink Argus 4 Pro
Matter Q4 2026 firmware · Wi-Fi · $169 · solar 4K

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if a product is genuinely Matter-certified?
Look for the Matter logo (the four-arrow icon) on the box and product page. Cross-check at csa-iot.org/csa-iot_products/. "Works with Matter via cloud bridge" is not the same as native Matter — bridged products lose local control and add latency.
Do I need to wait for Matter 1.5 or 2.0?
No. Matter 1.4 is mature and broadly supported. Future versions are additive (more device categories, security primitives), not breaking. Buying Matter 1.4 today is a 5+ year decision in your favor.
Will my older Zigbee/Z-Wave devices work with Matter?
Through a bridge, yes. Aqara M3, Hue Bridge, Echo (with Zigbee), and SmartThings Station all expose existing Zigbee/Z-Wave devices as Matter to your other ecosystems. You don't need to replace anything.
Why are some categories still missing native Matter?
Each category needs its own device-type cluster definition in the Matter spec. Cameras (1.3), thermostats (1.0), locks (1.1) all have their clusters. TVs got media clusters in 1.4; major appliances are still being defined. Expect catch-up through 2026-2027.
Is Matter secure?
Yes — uses AES-128 encryption with mandatory device attestation. Each device gets a unique certificate at manufacture, and pairing is QR-code based with a passcode. No cloud round-trip required for local control.
